SUMMARY. Populations of Large White, Large Black, Poltava Meaty, Pietrain and Meishan pigs are characterized by intron PvuII-polymorphism in the estrogen 1 receptor gene (ESR1). The breeds differ in ESR1-allele frequencies and genotypes. In the populations there are deviations in genotype distribution from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Established estrogen 1 receptor locus association with reproductive properties of Large White sows indicates possibility of using intron ESR1 PvuII-polymorphism as genetic multifoetus marker in pig selection.
