Hypovirulence of mycoviruses as an instrument for biotechnological control of fungal plant diseases

Kyrychenko A.M., Tsyganenko K.S., Olishevska S.V.

Review

SUMMARY. This article reviews current knowledge of the biology of mycoviruses, in particular viral morphology and genetics, as well as the characteristics of virus transmission and infection in fungal cells. The mechanisms involved in antiviral protection of different classes of fungi are discussed. Novel insights into the role of hypovirulent mycoviruses in biotechnological control of fungal plant diseases are explored.

Key words: mycoviruses, hypovirulence, biotechnological control
